WARDOGS roles explained: how to level Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver
How WARDOGS roles work, which actions give XP to which track and which unlocks matter. With Season 2 values and an FAQ for every role.
Updated:
WARDOGS has no fixed classes. Your role comes from the gear you buy and what you do in a match. Experience flows into several progression tracks, each unlocking its own weapons, attachments and vehicles. This guide explains the system, shows how to level each role and lists the key Season 2 unlocks. As of 1 November 2026.
How the role system works
According to BULKHEAD's official FAQ, roles are entirely player-defined. You buy specialist gear and earn XP in the progression tracks with it. The Season 2 patch notes list these tracks:
- WARDOG: the overarching career track, including supply pallets, pistols, ammo types and protection.
- Assault: assault rifles and, since Season 2, the role for attacking bases.
- Medic: SMGs, healing and revives.
- Recon: sniper rifles, DMRs, optics and reconnaissance.
- Support: machine guns, shotguns, launchers and building tools.
- Pilot: helicopters.
- Driver: ground vehicles up to tanks and artillery.
Cash is one shared account for all roles. XP, on the other hand, counts per track. If you switch roles often, each individual track levels more slowly.
Which action gives XP to which track?
With Season 2, BULKHEAD officially changed some assignments:
- Destroying enemy buildables gives Assault XP instead of Support XP.
- IEDs and C4 give Assault XP.
- Artillery gives Driver XP.
- Repair XP goes to Driver or Pilot depending on the vehicle repaired.
- Kills with assault-class weapons pay 2,000 instead of 1,500 dollars.
For the other roles, community guides agree: kills and assists count towards the track of the weapon used, Recon also earns XP for spotting with binoculars, Medic for healing and reviving, Support for building and resupplying, Driver and Pilot for transport and deliveries. For many items, the vendor shows which track they give XP to. Check before you buy.
How much XP do you need?
Season 2 made the curve much flatter. Total XP per track according to the patch notes: level 10 needs 25,000, level 20 111,500, level 30 318,200 and level 50 1,150,000 XP. After the Season 2 launch, BULKHEAD slowed Driver progression again, and Season 3 has been announced with a reset and less steep progression. The numbers may change with the next season.

Which role first?
That depends on your playstyle, not on a fixed formula. Our recommendation for new players:
- Medic or Support if you play with a squad. Both roles help the team and earn money without needing many kills.
- Recon if you prefer scouting and spotting. Note that spotting rewards are around 30 percent lower in Season 2.
- Driver if you want to run logistics. Our Driver guide explains the basics, although the values changed with Season 2.
- Assault if you want to fight on the front line and attack bases.
The Fieldkit page on making money by role compares how much each role earns. The tier list shows which weapons are worth it.
FAQ
How many roles are there in WARDOGS?
The Season 2 patch notes list seven progression tracks: the overarching WARDOG track plus Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver. The earlier FAQ spoke of six role tracks, meaning the six specialist roles.
Can I switch roles during a match?
There is no class selection. You play the role whose gear you buy and use. Switching means buying different gear.
What is the fastest way to level Support?
Support earns XP with machine guns, shotguns, launchers and by building. Building regularly and resupplying the team levels it steadily. Since Season 2, however, destroying enemy buildables counts towards Assault.
Do my role levels survive the season reset?
Levels and unlocks are reset with a new season. According to the developers, historical role XP is recorded for a later skill system. Our season reset guide has the details.
