WARDOGS login errors, queue, “Access denied” and mid-match kicks
Backend error, Access denied after the queue, incorrect ban or kick from the match? What is server-side, what you can check yourself and when to contact support.
Updated:
Not every WARDOGS error is caused by your PC. Around the launch on 10 September 2026, with at times 400,000 concurrent players, queues, rejected logins and kicks from running matches were mainly a server problem. Team17 opened a dedicated pinned thread “Login Issues & Crashes at Login”, Bulkhead shipped Launch Stability Hotfix #1 on 10 September and Patch 0.11 on 14 September. This article sorts out which messages you have to wait out, which you can fix yourself and when a ticket makes sense. Status: 19 September 2026.
Queue, “back of the queue” and crash at login
According to Team17, these errors arose from the high number of simultaneous logins: players were sent to the back of the queue or the game crashed at login. The hotfix on 10 September sent all players back to the queue and then let them in in controlled batches. Reports have been much rarer since. If you are still stuck:
- Check whether Steam shows an update for WARDOGS. After a hotfix all clients have to restart.
- Stay in the queue instead of restarting the game. A restart puts you at the back.
- Before a long troubleshooting session, check the official WARDOGS channels on Steam and X for reported maintenance or outages.
“Access denied” after the queue
During the launch period this message had two causes. The first was server load; it disappeared with the hotfixes. The second was incorrect bans: on 11 September Team17 reported that a small number of players were wrongly banned when joining. Mainly affected were participants of earlier internal tests where old permissions from the FirstLook link lingered. The bans were rescinded; Team17 asked those affected simply to launch the game again and log in.
If you still get “Access denied” today without having broken any rules, verify the game files and contact Team17 support with your Steam ID. Discussing ban reasons in the forum does not help; appeals are only handled via support. In Patch 0.11 Bulkhead also made clear that abusing cash exploits is answered with timed bans and a reset of cash and XP.
“Backend error” with a long number
Messages such as “Backend error: 1147405290” show that the client could not complete authentication with the game server. Team17 asks for a DxDiag file for this; there is no general solution. Check yourself first:
- Restart the Steam client and log out and back in completely once.
- Synchronise Windows date and time automatically; a wrong system time breaks encrypted connections.
- VPN off, check firewall exceptions for WARDOGS and the Elytra folder, connect via a mobile hotspot as a test.
- Add a Windows Defender exclusion for the Steam and WARDOGS folder; support recommended this to several players.
- Close the MSI Afterburner, RTSS and AMD software overlays.
Kicked from a running match
The unexpected removal mid-match, which loses the round’s loot, was explicitly named by Bulkhead as a target of Hotfix #1 (“Players being unexpectedly kicked from servers during play”). Individual reports continue afterwards. Important for context:
- A kick for inactivity during the seeding phase of an empty server is intended. Bulkhead has announced making AFK kicking during seeding switchable.
- Since the Season 1 changelog, the “kicked from server” message only appears if you were actually banned.
- For other kicks there is no client-side fix; verifying files or reinstalling changes nothing. Report the time, server region and server name in the “Report a Problem” forum so the developers can match the case.
- Individual players report team-kill penalties when dropping off passengers or cargo. Until that is clarified, only drop vehicles once nobody is in the way.
Until kicks are fully fixed, it makes sense to secure money regularly by selling and extracting rather than risking a long round with full loot.
Server browser: community server not found
Since Patch 0.11 there are two separate browsers for official and community servers, a text search and persistent server IDs. An ID you noted before 14 September is invalid; the new IDs are longer. Use the text search or the Show Empty and Show Full toggles if a server seems to be missing.
Our order in short
- Update installed, Steam restarted, official channels checked for outages.
- Stay in the queue, do not restart.
- “Access denied” without cause: verify files, contact support with your Steam ID.
- Backend error: system time, VPN, firewall, Defender exclusion, hotspot test, then DxDiag.
- Kick in the match: recognise the seeding AFK kick, otherwise report time and server, secure loot regularly.
